  • Please remind students that Warhawk time is MANDATORY attendance!!  Students MUST check in with their Warhawk teacher before they head to an intervention!  Seniors are REQUIRED to attend Monday only.  Thank you!


  • Students interested in participating in the following spring sports at Mason City, please email Mr. Borchardt (tyler.borchardt@westforkschool.org) to sign up. Sports: Tennis & Soccer


  • The Mason City High School girl’s soccer player-parent sign-up meeting is on Monday night, February 26 at 6:30 in Room 1330. If you are interested in playing soccer this spring, please plan to attend. Contact Coach       Dykstra (sdykstra@masoncityschools.org) if you have any questions.


  • The NIACC representative will be here this Monday and Tuesday, February 26th and 27th to take care of testing for next year. This would be for juniors wanting to take composition or NIACC math classes, students enrolled in a program at NIACC (welding, diesel, etc.), or seniors attending college next year. Please see Mrs. Lillquist to let me know what you want to test for so she can get you set up. 


  • Amy Edwards, X-ray School Program Director, will be here next Tuesday, February 27th for a Q&A regarding the MercyOne School of Radiology. She will be bringing two current radiology students with her. If you would like to be part of this conversation, please see Mrs. Lillquist for details so we can get a head count. 


  • There will be a representative from La’James International College here on Tuesday, February 27th at 9:30. Please stop by if you have any questions! 


  • There will be a representative from Ellsworth Community College here on Thursday, February 29th at 10:30. Please stop by if you have any questions!


  • NIACC is offering several free summer college credit classes. The following classes are being offered: Nurse Aide Theory/Clinical (clinical sites are in Mason City and Nora Springs), Body Structure and Function w/ Lab, Nutrition, Medical Terminology 1 & 2, Introduction to Business, Principles of Management, and Introduction to Accounting. Classes are first come, first serve and some fill up very quickly. Please see Mrs. Lillquist if you are interested in taking a summer class so we can get the paperwork filled out.


  • NIACC is hosting a “Bustin’ Out the Blue” campus visit event on Saturday, February 24 beginning at 12:45 PM. There will be a program and campus tours along with admission to the women’s and men’s basketball games in the afternoon. There are over $4,500 worth of prizes and gift cards for 9-12 grade students and four $1,000 scholarships available for seniors. Lunch is provided and everyone who attends gets a tshirt!   • Spring Soccer/Tennis: Students interested in participating in soccer or tennis this spring at Mason City, please email Mr. Borchardt. Deadline to sign up will be March 1, 2024.


  • Reminder that during post-season tournament games, students will not be able to get in free as you did during the regular season.  You will need to buy tickets off of Bound/IHSAA.

  • MercyOne North Iowa School of Radiology is holding a virtual program information session this month. It will be held on Wednesday, February 28th from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM. MercyOne has opened backup job shadow opportunities for interested students aged 16 and up. There are a few requirements including immunizations. If you are interested in either opportunity, please see Mrs. Lillquist for more information. 
  • Anthany Meyer, please turn your NIACC book into Mrs. Lillquist ASAP. 


  • There are gently used track spikes outside of Shelley’s office if anyone is in need- sizes: 15, 8, 6.5, 6
  • The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened on December 31st. If you are a senior or have a child who is a senior planning to attend college in the fall of 2024, it is highly recommended that you complete the FAFSA. There is help available with this process. ICAN (Iowa College Aid Network) is scheduling FAFSA appointments beginning January 3rd. You can access the scheduling system here: https://www.schedulicity.com/scheduling/ICARUB. You can access the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. We also hope to schedule filing appointments at West Fork in the near future – watch for more information.   • 6:00 = HS Boys Basketball State Qualifer vs North Linn @ Dike NH High School 

(WF will play the first game of a double header on Saturday. One ticket will get fans into both games. WF vs North Linn will not have its own ticket link. Fans will need to purchase tickets by going to class 2A under the ticketing tab and purchase a ticket for the Hudson vs North Fayette game.)

  • After Sport Shuttle Bus Schedule (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri):
    • 4:45pm –  Leave Sheffield
    • 4:55pm – Rockwell
    • 5:05pm – Swaledale
    • 5:13pm – Thornton
    • 5:20pm – Meservey
    • 5:35pm – Sheffield

  • Classification of Absences: All absences will be classified in one of two ways: 

#1 Excused Absence – Parent has notified the school and the school approves. No penalty. All work may be made up. These are limited to: personal illness, professional appointments, school activities, funerals, family vacations, emergency work at home with parents, or personal family issues – which must be shared with the principal or counselor. ● Doctor notes should be turned into the office to excuse the absence ● Oversleeping will not be excused. 

#2 Unexcused Absence/Truancy -Absence for all or part of a day without prior knowledge and permission of either the student’s parent or the principal. Credit for work may be withheld. Students may be required to make up missed time or be issued a detention A letter will be sent home after 5, 10, and 15 absences each quarter Meeting with the principal.

  • Just a reminder:  When students are entering or leaving the building, please use the northeast entrance by the office.  Anytime any student enters the building after 8:15am or exits the building before 3:00pm, You must check in or out at the office. 


  • If a student is absent, the parent is asked to notify the office. The school phone system is set up to take messages 
  • 24 hours a day (for calls before and after the office is open). Upon returning to school after being absent from the building, the student is required to check in with the 
  • office. 
  • Before leaving for any reason during the school day, the student is required to check in with the office before leaving the building. If the school has not been notified and the student is absent the office will attempt to notify the parents or guardian.
